Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM) Works with Samsung (OTCPK:SSNLF) and Google (NASDAQ:GOG) (NASDAQ:Google) to explore mixed-reality smart glasses that can be attached to smartphones, according to the chipmaker’s CEO Cristiano Amon. cnbc.
The project is based on the existing partnership between the three. Companies are developing mixed reality technology, which refers to the combination of augmented reality and virtual reality.
“What I really expect from this partnership is that I want everyone with a phone to buy a pair of glasses to go with it,” Amon said.
He pointed to Meta’s (META) Ray-Ban smart glasses, which can be connected to smartphones and feature a built-in camera as well as an AI voice assistant.
“I think we need to get to the point where the glasses are no different from wearing regular glasses. Then we can achieve scale,” Amon Added.
If it does launch, the new product will be different from Apple’s (AAPL) Vision Pro, a mixed reality headset that can be controlled with hand gestures. However, users say the larger headset isn’t very comfortable and can be uncomfortable to wear, a problem that could be solved by smart mixed reality glasses.
