Cryptocurrency prices surged Saturday evening, moments after former President Trump was shot while speaking at a campaign rally in western Pennsylvania.
Bitcoin (BTC-USD) briefly dipped to around $58,448 at 6:15 p.m. ET before rallying 2.4% to $59,909 over the next few days. hours.
Solana meme coin TRUMP more than doubled in value after news reports of the incident. MAGA token also surged 30%.
Secret Service took Trump off stage bleeding from around his ear after shots were heard at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Trump later said in a post on his social media platform Truth Social that he had been “shot through the top of my right ear.”
Law enforcement officials said the incident was being investigated as an attempted assassination. A Secret Service spokesman said one rally participant was killed in the shooting, and the suspected shooter was killed by the Secret Service.
