EigenLayer’s X Account Hijacked To Promote Fraudulent Airdrop

Crypto Scam Alert: EigenLayer’s X Account Hijacked to Promote Fake Airdrop

In the early hours of Friday, the official X account (formerly Twitter) of EigenLayer, a prominent recovery protocol, was opened. bargaining It is being used to promote fraudulent airdrops, according to confirmation from its developer, Eigen Labs.

Hackers exploited the account to share misleading posts about a fake reallocation of EIGEN tokens for EIGENLayer’s Season 2 airdrop. This malicious campaign attempted to lure users into engaging with suspicious links and making claims under pretexts.

Consequences and details

Following the hack, Eigen Labs immediately alerted users about the hack, urging them to avoid interacting with fraudulent posts and links.

The developer stressed the importance of verifying any connection and ensuring that users are interacting with the legitimate EigenLayer domain, “eigenlayer.xyz.”

The fake airdrop posts on EigenLayer’s X account followed a specific pattern, starting with a message promoting the reallocation of the fake EIGEN token to stakeholders in Season 2.

This initial post contains a malicious link to trick users into participating in the fraudulent scheme. Shortly after, the hackers posted another message urging users to file a claim, and finally shared a third “last call” post to amplify the urgency.

These posts closely mimic the legitimate announcement of the actual EigenLayer share for Season 2, which was released in September, and for which the claim period has already expired.

Bust

Scam Sniffer, an anti-crypto fraud platform, quickly identified the fake promotion, which confirmed that the posts included malicious links.

The platform warned users of the risks and advised them to avoid interacting with the posts. Meanwhile, blockchain investigator, ZachXBT, raised an early warning on his Telegram channel.

ZackXBT I was informed informed his subscribers that his EigenLayer X account had been hacked. He warned against clicking on any links shared from the account during the hack.

Notably, the fraud incident involving EigenLayer is not a new tactic. Hackers have repeatedly used this method to lure investors into scams.

Most recently, the FBI arrested the perpetrator of the January hack of the SEC’s Account Officially the Securities and Exchange Commission.
